A Joel Goldstrand Designed Championship Course
Designed by renowned Midwest golf course architect Joel Goldstrand, Geneva Golf Club is a 27-hole championship course that blends natural beauty with strategic design. With a mix of water features, bunkers, and tree-lined fairways, the course offers a rewarding experience for golfers of all skill levels.
The vision for Geneva Golf Club began when the Thompson family moved to Alexandria in 1998, transitioning from nearly three decades of operating a dairy and grain farm to developing a premier public golf destination. Opening in the spring of 2000, Geneva Golf Club quickly earned its reputation as one of Minnesota’s finest daily-fee courses. Owners Gary, Barb, and Randy Thompson have run the club as a true family business from day one, with the next generation continuing to shape its growth and innovation.
The club’s original 18-hole layout was developed on land purchased from the T.A. Erickson family—Erickson being a key figure in founding Minnesota’s 4-H organization. The first phase of development covered 233 acres, with 163 acres dedicated to golf and 70 acres for the Lake Geneva Estates residential community. In 2002, an additional 142 acres allowed for the expansion to 27 holes, integrating seamlessly with the original design to create the Island, Ponds, and Marsh nines—each beginning and ending at the clubhouse.
Geneva Golf Club continues to evolve, now encompassing 444 acres with the addition of Geneva Estates East, formerly Liberty Tree Farm. This expansion features scenic wooded home sites and the Geneva East Townhome development, further solidifying Geneva Golf Club as not just a premier golf destination, but a thriving golf community.
